Experiments and Correlations for Single-Phase Convective Heat Transfer in Brazed Plate Heat Exchangers

This study presents the single-phase heat transfer and pressure drop characteristics of R1233zd(e) in a Brazed Plate Heat Exchanger (BPHE). Experiments on single-phase, water-to-water, were initially conducted correlation for convective coefficient hot water side was derived by applying modified Wilson plot method. The experiments covered range Reynolds number from 80 to 1600 Prandtl 2.8 7.0. Subsequent with water-to-R1233zd(e) covering refrigerant 700 1450 4.5 4.9. results used assess existing correlations literature predicting Nusselt Fanning friction factor BPHEs. Finally, new both (water) cold (refrigerant) sides are proposed this geometry conditions above. predicted 97% all data within ± 10% error bands at mean absolute value 5.7%.
